Dr. Derrick Gragg, Ed. D

“The Trailblazer”

Vice President & Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, The University of Tulsa

Dr. Derrick Gragg’s experience spans 22 years in progressively advanced roles at various universities. A former collegiate wide receiver, Gragg lettered four years at Vandy while earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1992. He earned a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University and his Doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Arkansas. Gragg has published several articles and editorials on intercollegiate athletics, and has taught college courses during his career.

To remind myself of where I came from, for the past 15 years or more, I have carried an index card in my day planner that simply has “1.06” written on it. This number has played a very significant part in my life because it represents my grade point average after my first college semester as a football student-athlete. Everything in high school seemed to fall into place so easily. I was a member of the National Honor Society, an all-city three-sport athlete, and voted “Most Athletic” and “Mr. Lee High School”. College was much different and the last thing I wanted to do was return home from Vanderbilt as a failure. #DaFellaz
